Honed vs Polished Stone
Honed stone has a smooth, matte surface with no gloss. Polished stone is ground and polished with progressively finer abrasives until it is reflective and glossy. Polished shows the stone's pattern most vividly. Honed hides small imperfections better and, on many stones, can add some slip resistance underfoot.

Choose Honed when…
You want a matte, understated look, or a finish that hides small marks better. On many stones, honing can add some slip resistance, but no finish is rated here for wet or slip-prone areas. Finish levels vary: no machine can determine precisely when a stone reaches a given finish. Check the specific product for those rooms.
Choose Polished when…
You want shine and the most vivid color and veining.
