Statuario Marble

Statuario (Statuary in English) is the pure white marble that has long been the prize yield of the Carrara quarries in Tuscany, historically used for monumental sculpture. It is a different grade from the more common Statuarietto, despite the similar name. SoCal Tiles sells a white marble under the name Statuary White.

A pure white stone. Any veining is faint.

Whiteness and any faint veining vary from block to block and between production lots. Order a sample from the product page before deciding.

About Statuario Marble

Statuario, Statuary and Statuarietto. Three similar names cause real confusion.

  • Statuario / Statuary: the Italian and English spellings of one name. In the Carrara district it means the pure white grade prized for sculpture. The trade also uses "statuary" loosely for white marble from other regions, so the name alone doesn't tell you where a stone was quarried.
  • Statuarietto: a different, more common Carrara-district type, listed alongside Bianco Carrara and Bianco Venatino.

Is Statuary the same as Statuario?

As names, yes: Statuario is the Italian and Statuary the English spelling. But the trade also uses 'statuary' for white marble from other regions, so the name alone doesn't tell you where a stone was quarried.

Is Statuario the same as Statuarietto?

No. Statuarietto is a separate, more common Carrara-district type, not the pure white Statuario grade.
